2026/2027 Kindergarten Registration Open

Registration is now open for families looking to register their children into kindergarten programming for the 2026/2027 school year with the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) and Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB). The registration process is completed with your chosen school board and transportation assignments are made over the summer months in advance of your child's first day of school in September 2026.

Registration Process

Within Renfrew County and District, families may elect to send their children to one of four (4) local school boards depending on their language and religion of choice.

Please note that the Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium (RCJTC) only provides transportation services for its partner school boards (English Public and English Separate). All French-language transportation services are provided by the Consortium de transport scolaire d'Ottawa (CTSO)

School boundaries are created by our partner school boards to designate where pupils should attend their primary and secondary schooling. School attendance boundaries are necessary to create school communities that are appropriately sized for the capacity of each school facility and to accommodate sustainable student enrolment as determined by the school board.

While you can find a full list of school locations on the RCDSB and RCCDSB websites, please consult the BusPlanner application to see boundary maps and determine your eligibility based on your child's home address.

Once you have confirmed the school that your child should attend based on your civic address, you can complete the school registration form for your chosen school board.

Upon receipt of a completed application form, school administrators will reach out to families to schedule an appointment to review documentation, obtain signatures and finalize the registration. Families with questions may reach out to their child's prospective school to receive guidance on the registration process.

Transportation Services for New Students

Families should be aware that school transportation services are provided to children who are located within the attendance boundary for their chosen school. However, out of boundary / zone transportation is not provided for families who chose not to attend their designated school based on their address.

Once a family has finalized their registration, schools will provide student details to the RCJTC Team. Depending on when the registration process is completed, transportation assignments for incoming kindergarten students will be completed over the spring / summer months by the RCJTC team. They will be made available in the RCJTC Parent Portal in early June so that parents have the appropriate details on their bus route number, bus stop location and scheduled pick-up / drop-off timings.

Resources for Families

The Parent Toolkit is here to support families in making school transportation reliable and worry-free. We’ve kept safety information short, since our safety videos cover it well, and instead focused on the things parents ask about most: eligibility, forms, schedules, and what to do when things don’t go as planned.

Our First Ride Program

If your child is starting school, you may want to explore the First Ride Program. It helps young children and their parents get comfortable with buses before the first day. For kindergarten students, please remember that a caregiver must be present at drop-off. If no one is there, the driver will return your child to school.

Transportation Eligibility

Each school board creates their school attendance boundaries in order to help parents determine which schools they are eligible to attend and receive transportation to and from each day. We’ve also created easy-to-use boundary maps and an online address look-up tool to check if your child qualifies for transportation.

Delays and Cancellations

Delays and cancellations are shared based on the best information available including weather forecasts, Environment Canada advisories and road condition assessments. For your convenience, we’ve brought together all the information that you need on our Delays and Cancellations webpage, including the instructions for signing up for mobile alerts.

Address Changes

Finally, we’ve made the information update process clearer. All student address information is maintained at each school.  As such, parents/guardians must contact their school directly with requests for new registrations, school change, address change, sitter change, email address updates, etc. Learn more on our Change My Information page.

Tips for Parents

For families preparing for the first week of school, we’ve added a simple checklist:

  1. Practice the walk to your stop.
  2. Make sure your child’s backpack is light and safe to carry.
  3. Confirm that your contact information is up to date in the RCJTC Parent Portal.

Ensuring Student Safety

Parents and students share a common role in reinforcing school bus safety. Please take the time to review school bus safety with your children several times throughout the school year. The safe transportation of our children to and from school concerns all of us and we have prepared training sessions and helpful resources to support your students.
